Poetry Book Report Format
This book report is very different than the standard reports that we have been writing during the year. The format of this poetry book report will include both oral and written parts. Each portion will be worth 25 points with a total of 50 points possible.
Written Section
This portion of the report will be a presentation of your poem in front of the class. The poem needs to be memorized. This means that you need to be able to recite the poem without any help from notes.
I hope you will be creative with your presentations as well. The oral presentations may include drawings, costumes, proprs, music or whatever else you want to make it entertaining for your audience.
I will send home a note letting your parents know when you will be giving your presentation so they can attend, if they wish.
Written Section
- Choose a published poem by a poet that is at least 50 words long. Make sure it is a poem that you like and understand. After you have chosen the poem, bring it to me to have it o.k.'ed.
- Write this poem, in cursive, on a piece of lined paper. Include the author's name at the end of the poem.
- Lay a piece of plain, white paper over the top of the lined paper and copy the poem onto the plain sheet of paper. It should be centered on the page.
- Read and try to understand what the author is saying in the poem.
- Next, illustrate your interpretation, thoughts and feelings of the poem. Using crayons, colored pencils or markers, draw your illustrations on the same plain, unlined piece of paper as your written poem (in the space surrounding the written poem).
- Feel free to be creative! Fill as much of the space on the page as possible with your drawings because these will be displayed outside of the classroom.
